Simple Glace Cake Icing

This versatile, simple, quick and easy icing will work as a quick fix for any cake – kids love it too


  • 125g icing sugar, sifted
  • 15ml (1 tbsp) warm lemon juice OR water

Optional: You can flavour or colour this icing any way you like – just add any flavouring or icing colour of your choice. 


  1. Sift the icing intpo a bowl, then gradually mix inenough lemon juice or water to give it the consistency you want. I like mine on the runner side – so its almost see-through, but you can add less liquid for a thicker, firmer white icing – just add in as mush as you want, then pipe, pour or smooth over the top of your cake/buns/muffins/cupcakes.
  2. If you like, add more water (a drop at a time) to make the icing runnier. If the icing becomes too watery, add an additional spoonful of  icing sugar to thicken the mixture – you really can’t go wrong!

Optional: Decorate with toasted almonds and garnish with fresh flowers
